What Are Green Drinks?

“Did you know that 2 ounces of green foods like Wheatgrass or Green Barley is equivalent to 4 pounds of the highest quality leafy green veg?”

Recently I’ve returned to having Green Drinks - wheatgrass, barley grass and other green superfoods and I’m recalling all the wonderful benefits. Years ago, I introduced my best friend to Green Drinks and she’s a huge fan. When I stopped drinking it, she continued on and on the weekend she told me that she put her 60 year old mother, Mrs W, onto Green Drinks and she’s now a convert too. Mrs W says Green Barley really helps her upset stomach amongst other things and she misses it when she doesn’t take it. She tried other green drinks like wheatgrass but swears that Green Barley is far more powerful for her.

So what are the different types of Green Drinks?

Green drinks are either sprouts that have been juiced like wheat grass, green barley, alfalfa or algaes like Spirulina and Chlorella. Health food stores sell them individually as dried powders or you can buy blends. The Tony Robbins version or VitalGreens blends are the sweetest and best tasting ones for people unused to the taste. After a little while, most people find that wheatgrass and green barley are very sweet, particularly when it’s organic. Algae, particularly Spirulina, can be unpleasant if left too long so I drink it down fast!

Wheatgrass juice is one of nature’s true super foods; in fact it is a complete food capable of sustaining human life in the absence of other nourishment for long periods. We certainly wouldn’t recommend such a single-track approach to nutrition, but this amazing juice contains almost everything necessary to keep us going. Wheatgrass Juice is extracted from the young sprouts of wheat berries or grains. Wheatgrass is suitable for those who are gluten-free because gluten, the protein element in the grain, is converted to amino acids during sprouting.

Barley green or Green Barley has been claimed to be the most nutritious food on earth. It is a whole food concentrate that contains all the nutrients and phytochemicals of green barley leaves in natural proportions. Barley green has one of the widest spectrums of “naturally occurring” nutrients available in a single source. It contains more than a dozen vitamins & enzymes, all essential amino acids, over 20 minerals and chlorophyll. Barleygreen has 13 times as much carotene as that of carrots, 55 times as much Vitamin C as that of apples and 5 times as much Iron as that of spinach.

Spirulina is a blue-green algae and contains rich vegetable protein and multi Vitamins (Vitamin B 12 is 3~4 times higher than animal liver), which is particularly lacking in a vegetarian diet. Spirulina is 65 to 71 percent complete protein, with all essential amino acids in perfect balance. In comparison, beef is only 22 percent protein.

It contains a wide range of minerals (including Iron, Potassium, Magnesium Sodium, Phosphorus, Calcium etc), a high volume of Beta- carotene which protects cells (5 time more than carrots, 40 time more than spinach), high volumes of gamma-Linolein acid (which can reduce cholesterol and prevent heart disease).

Chlorella is a green single-celled algae cultivated in fresh water ponds. It has a grass-like smell because of the high amounts of chlorophyll in it, the highest concentration of any plant in the world. It has existed on the plant for billions of years and was one of the first foods to appear. Fossils of Chlorella have been found dating back 3 billion years. Chlorella is one of the healthiest, most potent foods in existence. In addition to being a perfect food for humans, lower grades of Chlorella are fed to livestock all over the world.

Chlorella was recommended to me a while back as being great for getting mercury out of the body.

The algaes are a bit controversial. Dr. Young, author of The pH Miracle. Balance Your Diet, Reclaim Your Health states that “spirulina and algae supplements . . . thrive in acid conditions and . . . are the scum you see growing on the surface of stagnant ponds and lakes.” Bob McCauley’s response is “While you may find algae mixed with scum growing on a pond, it is not scum itself and should not be confused with it. There are over 70,000 species of algae and most are quite nutritious. I quite often hear nutritionists and dietitians refer to algae as pond scum and it demonstrates a profound ignorance about some of the most powerful foods on Earth.”

Cracking Down on Organic Food Fraud: Science to the rescue

With organic foods raking in $16 billion and more annually, some are concerned that Department of Agriculture standards and independent third-party verification may be insufficient to prevent fraud. Spanish scientists describe how they use “nitrogen isotopic discrimination” to determine if non-organic, synthetic fertilizers were used…
USDA organic standards are widely considered to be trustworthy, given that independent third-party assessors check on farm practices, and the USDA has also recently cracked down on at least one large dairy that had received organic certification for its milk before its standards lapsed.

Live Blood Cell Analysis - Microscopy

Yesterday I wrote about the Live Blood Cell Analysis had a huge impact on me. I highly recommend it because it gives a powerful visual image that helps keep you on track when you making good, healthy choices.

This video explains what Live Blood Analysis is and shows you an example of healthy blood versus unhealthy blood. It’s a bit boring and drawn out in places but it’s a great introduction.

  • 1:40 Cholesterol crystal in the blood
  • 2:40 red blood cells compressed together
  • 3:00 infection
  • 6:00 unhealthy red blood cells
  • 6:10 Healthy red blood cells

If you’d like to see more visuals on what healthy blood looks like compared to unhealthy blood, have a look at Dr Robert Young microscopy pictures by clicking here.

12 Hour Cure for Yeast Infection

What I’ve Learned About Having Healthy Cells

  • cells are mostly water so hydration is essential and good quality water will help the nutrients get inside the cell
  • nice round cells have a strong cell wall and Essential Fatty Acids build good cell walls that keep cells round and full rather than squashed like sickle cells
  • oxygen - red blood cells transport oxygen around the body so practice your breathing exercises to get those blood cells pumping!

Apparently it takes about 120 days for all the blood in the body to completely regenerate.
