6 Quick Tips for Banishing Garlic Breath
November 13th, 2007
Recently I shared the mercury detox program my doctor put me on.
Part of this program included eating 2 cloves of garlic a day and I have to admit that’s the part I’m having the most trouble with because of the smell not only from my breath but my body too!
Fortunately you need not swallow garlic whole in order to derive its benefits. In fact, the healing abilities in garlic that stimulate cellar activity are stimulated only when sliced, cooked, or chewed. These actions kick the necessary enzymes into gear.
I know I could take odorless capsules but I prefer to get my nutrients straight from the source as I believe that our body is able to better use them than a processed product. Plus I love a nice italian dish!
I came across this little tidbit, remember me talking about glutathaione? Fresh garlic is a common source of NAC. N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine (NAC) increases the production of cysteine and glutathaione.
6 Quick Easy Tips For Getting Rid of Garlic Breath
- Chew parsley or basil after your garlic. Many people recommend chewing on a sprig of fresh parsley, or adding chopped fresh parsley to a dish at the end of cooking so that the parsley doesn’t cook. This is my favorite tip and one I’ve found is very effective.
- You can also chew on a clove or cardamom seed to cover the smell of garlic.
- Brush your teeth and tongue immediately afterwards to get the sulfur compounds out of your mouth.
- Drink a cup of tea afterwards.
- Raw garlic is the worst but you can minimise this by eating pickled garlic in vinegar which just takes all the garlic odor off. You could then truly enjoy eating raw garlic with almost no garlic smell.
- Chop up or mash up the garlic, then place the chopped or mashed garlic on a spoon and swallow it with the glass of water. This method ensures that the garlic does not stay in the mouth longer than necessary. This will reduce your chances of having bad breath.
I’ll be trying these methods. What do you think? Do you have your own tip? Please share your comments.
