Oprah and Dr Oz talk to Kris Carr Crazy Sexy Cancer about her Wellness Routine
October 24th, 2007
The vivacious Kris Carr from Crazy Sexy Cancer has now just been on Oprah.
Kris has been an inspiration to me and thousands of women and I love her empowered attitude about cancer and life.
“I knew when I was diagnosed with cancer the only thing I could control was what I ate, what I drank and what I would think. I thought the best place to start was with what I put in my mouth. It’s one of the many reasons I think I feel better.”
Years later, Kris says the tumors on her liver and lungs are completely stable. “I’m happy and, I think, healthier than I was before I was diagnosed,” she says.
Dr. Oz went to meet Kris in New York to see her wellness routine. “I like the fact that she didn’t just trust modern medicine. I love the fact that she was empowered, and she was going to go out and find solutions,” he says. “She wasn’t going to take no for an answer.”
Here is Kris with Dr Oz sharing her green juice. Kris says this healthy lifestyle is far removed from her old self. “I did martinis before, now I do green drinks,” she says. “It’s green,” she says. “Whatever is in the refrigerator that’s green, it’s in my juice.”
“Freshness In A Glass”
4 Celery Stalks
1 Cucumber
1 cup Spinach (raw)
1 Lemon
1 Lime
1 large Apple
1/2 Inch Piece of raw Ginger (peeled)
A little Parsley was also mentioned.
Mix everything together in a Blender!
If it’s too much for you at first, reduce some of the greens and have more apple juice or add carrot juice to sweeten. Even a small amount of greens is going to be great for you and as you get used to it, you can add more.
But it’s too thick
A high speed blender like a vitamix will turn into into a super smooth smoothie otherwise it might be a bit chunky.
You can also use a juicer instead but you will miss out on the fibre.
How long does it last? Can I make it up the night before?
You will find that fresh juices will keep well in the refrigerator for 24-48 hours. You could also freeze it. However, Juices are best drunk straight away for the most nutrients.
Once the juice is squeezed, the important minerals begin to break down. The longer it sits, the less potent it is.
Definitely do not cook your juice. If you boil orange juice you’ll find it is so bitter and awful that you need to add heaps of sugar just to make it drinkable. Makes you think twice about buying juice in a carton.
Ginger Tip
A very simple way to peel it is to scrape it with the side of a spoon - a regular spoon that you would use to eat cereal. This takes off the papery peel without digging into the flesh or wasting the juices.

Of all the weight loss programs on the block, the best way to go about weight loss is to follow a healthy diet. The atkins diet is a good diet plan.

It has been said that juice should be consumed within 24 hours as after that the degradation starts and thus can be of no nutritional value.

I agree juice 48 hours old will be less nutritious than within 1 hour.
But remember even 48 hour old juice will be more nutritious than bottled juice from a store.
